About Me

Sumin Byeon

Computer science graduate from the University of Arizona. If you Google me, you will find more information about me.

Activities

Violet from myblackdogbooks.com, 2010

Violet is a children's book for iPad with user-interactable animations. I didn't expect that I had to deal with that much of math and physics for making a children's book. All the physic and math classes I took when I was in a college were a life-saver. Also, it was a good opportunity to learn new stuff like barycentric subdivision for determining if a point is inside a triangle. If I take another children's book project, then I'm going to have to look into some of 2D physics engines.

Readown, 2010

Readown is a Markdown reader for Mac OS X. It was originally written by Minhee Hong a few years ago. Then I added a few more features for my personal needs.

labs.sumin.us, 2008-2010

My playground.

Stealth Health, 2009-2010

Windows mobile application developer

CQube iPhone Edition, 2009

CQube was originally developed by a friend of mine, Jaeseok Kim, back in 2005. The original version was written in C++ with DirectX. Then another friend of mine, Donggeun Lee, made a Flash version of CQube about two years later. Finally, an iPhone edition was released in March of 2009. I'm in charge of directing the development process and most of actual implantation works as well as other business operations.

RequestPolicy, 2009

English to Korean translator

Vlaah, 2008

Korean to English translator, development support

MacBook Anti-theft System, 2008

No one would appreciate their portable computers to be stolen. So, I decided to put some effort to be prepared for potential incidents. If you steal my MacBook, I will know how you look like and where you are.

Notehall, 2008, 2009

Notehall is an online document marketplace that enables students to buy and sell class notes, study guides, and lecture notes online. I was one of the developers in both years.

Casa Video, 2008

Casa Video is a Tucson-based local video rental store. They also have a website. The original video search on the website would take more than 12 seconds to search videos and I knew customers wouldn't like it at all. I did some optimizations on the database and the code, and now it takes only a fraction of a second.

Mandelbrot Set Drawing, 2007

One of the most exciting class projects I've worked on.

SBBS, 2007

Lead Developer
SBBS is a web-based bulletin board system written in PHP.

8-bit Block Symmetric Key Based Encryption Algorithm, 2004

The project was a complete failure due to lack of necessary mathematical background knowledge. I was a highschool kid at that time. I'm planning on taking a cryptography class in Spring of 2010. We'll see what comes out.
